A wide range of drugs have been found to harm our gut health. In a study conducted by researchers at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) , over one in four (250/923) non-antibiotic drugs were found to harm at least one species in the microbiome.

A study carried out by marine scientists at NUI Galway found that 73 per cent of deep sea fish had ingested microplastics. The study was undertaken in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean and the results published in the journal Frontiers in Marine Science.
